Sustainable Fashion, inspired by History

Updated: Aug 24, 2023

Hello, my name is Amelina Bellemont. I am a fashion enthusiast and experienced seamstress. In 2022 I created Saintmore, a clothing company that specialises in pre-16th century fashions. I take inspiration from the past to create pieces of clothing that is both timeless and modern. My vision for Saintmore is to preserve the beauty and simplicity of pre-16th century fashion while making it accessible to modern fashion-conscious individuals.

Pre-16th century sustainable fashion was a norm rather than an exception. Clothing was made from natural and locally sourced materials such as wool, silk, cotton, and linen. Clothes were durable and could be repaired or repurposed when they became worn out or outdated. Handloom weaving and hand-sewing techniques were common, promoting the longevity of clothing. The production of textiles was labor-intensive and small-scale, with little waste generated. Clothing was also passed down from generation to generation, and people often recycled old clothes into new ones. In summary, pre-16th century sustainable fashion was characterized by a focus on durability, quality, and resourcefulness, reflecting a time when people valued the resources they had and used them wisely.
